Evidently, Barack Obama has just been placed under the watchful eye of the United States Secret Service.

According to CNN.com, Obama officials said the candidate has recently received some hate mail and threatening phone calls, but that there was no specific threat.

It’s the earliest Secret Service request placed in any presidential campaign, as it’s usually offered during election years only.

Barack: Stay safe, man. You’re in good company with Hillary Clinton, who, as a former First Lady, already receives Secret Service protection. (Future PerezHilton.com fodder?)
