Dr. Daniel’s report: A daily drop of booze may slow dementia in seniors
Finally, a good bit of medical news!
According to a study in this week’s Neurology journal, a drink a day can help seniors deal with the effects of Alzheimer’s. Of course, a drink may only help those with mild cognitive impairment. (But with many people, how can you tell?)
Unfortunately, the study didn’t state which kinds of alcoholic beverages work better than others, but judging by the study’s sponsors, the Italian Longitudinal Study on Aging and by AFORIGE, an Italian medical group dedicated to aging research, the most effective drink could be Chianti. (In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is!)
This is the first study of its kind.
